I understand the analysis. Kaepernick is a solid running QB. He can make big plays however he can make raw mistakes. the Nevada Running game is good also. Nevada's Defense is extremely suspect. Of course this is based on last season performance and things can change with coaching and good recruits. Right now based on your recruiting Nevada does not compare with upper echelon programs, like USC, Notre Dame, Texas etc. So the talent level has not improved greatly on D.
Based on some limited film that I have seen on Nevada they should be able to score points. However I do not believe they will be able to stop good offensive teams. i.E. Mizzou's, Notre Dame, Boise State. However these teams will be able to stop Nevada's offense enough to win probably pretty handily. I am not saying upsets can not happen ie. Stanford beating a great USC team in 2007 but they do not happen often. So everyting has to go there way to beat those 3 teams.
As far as the Notre Dame game. Talent and depth both offense and defense Notre Dame has clear advantages. Notre dame is returning most of its players from a Freshman and Sophomore dominated team. These players are now Juniors and Sophomores. The O-line has 4* and 5* talent with a new coach to teach and motivate them. What I have seen of film compared the Irish teams over the past 2 years. It is night and day. The Irish O-line will probably dominate the line of scrimage and run unlike there prior 2 years performance at running the ball. Plus with three of best receivers in the country TE, Rudolph, WR Tate and Floyd. Will be hard to stop. Along with superior depth at these positions. They pretty much should score at will on Nevada.
Now for the Defense. The DB's are top notch players. The question will be the front 7 only because of youth not experience. The D's front 7 will be dominated by sophomores and Freshman. However, they have experience and they are probably the most talent has had on D since the Holtz era. They have a lot of speed unlike prior years Irish Defenses. The main questions is at Defense tackle. Will those guys step up to allow Ethan Johnson to play DE. If that happens Colin K will be stopped enough times to allow Notre Dame to dominate the game. So good luck.
"upper echelon programs, like USC, Notre Dame, Texas etc.? "What I have seen of film compare the Irish teams over the past 2 years. It is night and day." Bro you crack me up. That's not Kool-Aid you're drinking that's some nuclear brew! What film have you watched of the OLine? The 3 minute practice snippets? C'mon we're 10-15 in our last two years and now all of a sudden we're an upper echelon program like Texas and USC? You want to be a blind eternal optimist, hey I'm all for it, but let's not talk of it as if it were fact. The friggin OLine hasn't played a down of football yet and next to the DLine is the second biggest question mark for ND heading into this season.
